Lauren and Akif’s engagement shoot has been featured on The Wedding Co. recently! The couple shared their engagement story with me, and since it’s so sweet I wanted to share with you too.
‘Akif asked Lauren to be his wife at the top of a mountain in the Bavarian alps in June 2012. They live in Munich, Germany, but knew from the beginning that their engagement photos had to take place in Lauren’s hometown of Toronto, Canada; the city where their long distance love solidified.
In June 2011, Lauren was visiting a friend in Munich. It was an uncommonly cool night, so they decided on a nightcap in a cozy bar in the city centre. Akif was there, too. That was the first of many evenings spent together during her vacation. After her return to Toronto and two months of daily six hour phone conversations, Akif visited Lauren; he fell deeply love with the city and even more deeply in love with her. Eight weeks later, Lauren visited Akif in Munich and it was clear long distance was enough. He bought the ring and she bought a one-way ticket to Munich.
After floating down the side of that alpine mountain on the happiest day of their lives so far, they planned their trip to Toronto to celebrate their engagement with Lauren’s family and friends. Engagement photos in their favourite city were, of course, an important and symbolic part of their trip, marking a new phase of their love. ‘
The engagement shoot took place in and around Kensington Market, Toronto on September 14th, 2012.
